Dr. Anderson specializes in the treatment of adults and adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, panic attacks, and health anxiety), body-focused repetitive behaviors, insomnia, mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), and borderline personality disorder. She has particular expertise in working with individuals navigating concerns such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, and suicidal behaviors. She also frequently works with clients struggling with perfectionism and self-critical tendencies.
Dr. Anderson brings a warm, candid, and human-first approach to therapy. Her style is collaborative, humorous, and straightforward, creating a space where clients feel both supported and challenged as they work through their most difficult moments. She is especially passionate about helping people discover strength, humor, and hope in the process of healing and growth.
She is trained in various types of CBT including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), habit reversal therapy (HRT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). She also utilizes Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or Prolonged Exposure (PE) for the aftereffects of traumatic events or abuse. She tailors these approaches to each individual’s needs, focusing on building skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal communication, and values-driven living.
Dr. Anderson received her B.A. in Psychology (with a minor in Deaf Studies) from Boston University and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University, where her research examined how distress tolerance impacts risk behaviors such as substance use, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Center for Anxiety in Manhattan, working in both outpatient and intensive outpatient programs to treat PTSD, OCD, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders in individual and group formats.
